I need some advice!

Okay, I’m really wanting to look in to publishers sending me books to review as I get more serious in to this reviewing and I was just wondering if anyone had any advice on how to go about this. I don’t really know much about it so please excuse me if I ask any questions.

I’m planning two more reviews soon and I’ll post them up as soon as I can. I’m also planning to write more posts about writing techniques and styles.

I’m hoping that I’ll get some responses *fingers crossed*

Review- Cherry Crush by Cathy Cassidy

Cherry Costello’s life is about to change forever. She and Dad are moving to Somerset where a new mum and a bunch of a brand-new sisters await.

And on Cherry’s first day there she meets Shay Fletcher; with suntanned skin and sea-green eyes he’s the kind of boy who should carry a government health warning.

But Shay already has a girlfriend, Cherry’s new stepsister, Honey. Cherry knows her friendship with Shay is dangerous- it could destroy everything. But that doesn’t mean she’s going to stay away from him…

I read this book quite a while ago and really loved it. I think I read it quite quickly, as well, which is always a sure sign that I enjoyed a book.
The characters are really great, as are all of Cathy Cassidy’s characters. Cherry, the main character, is brave and determined; something I like in a main character. If I was in that situation, I would want to be like her!
Shay Fletcher was a great love interest! It wasn’t overplayed, and there was a little bit of a love triangle. This could have been written a little better, I think, but I was still really happy with it. You knew from the start who was going to end up with Shay, it was expected.
I really love the cover! It makes me hungry! I much prefer this one to the other, paperback cover. The red really stands out; if you see it on a shelf you are instantly drawn to it.
Overall, I really enjoyed this book! The writing style was great and I felt really comfortable reading it.

Book Haul

So, yesterday I went to the library and I wanted to show you all the books I got! So here they are! I’ll be doing reviews on them as soon as I’ve read them, so keep checking back to see if they’re up!
The first book is The Unbecoming of Mara Dyer by Michelle Hodkin. I’ve already started reading it and it is really good so far!

The second book is Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

If I Stay by Gayle Forman is the third book

CandyPop is the fourth book, by Lauren Laverne. I’ve borrowed it before but hadn’t gotten around to reading it.

The final book is A Royal Match by Tyne O’Connel which I have read before. It is actually two books in one, Pulling Princes and Stealing Princes.

Those are the books I got and I will try and read them fast so I can write the reviews!

Review- Wings by Aprilynne Pike

Laurel was mesmerized, staring at the pale things with wide eyes. They were terrifyingly beautiful – too beautiful for words.

Laurel turned to the mirror again, her eyes on the hovering petals that floated beside her head. They looked almost like wings.

In this extraordinary tale of magic and intrigue, romance and danger, everything you thought you knew about faeries will be changed forever.

What can I say about this book that will give it the justice it deserves? I read this in April and managed to finish it within a day; it was that good. I struggled at first to get into it but, once you get through a few chapters, it was really hard to put down. I don’t think I actually got up for a few hours.

The plot is really good, and original. I haven’t read a book similar before. I had read mixed reviews on this book and decided to give it a go myself and see what my own opinion was. One of the things that kept me reading was the love triangle. I’m Team Tamani all the way!

The main character is Laurel, and the author really makes you feel sympathy towards her. Discovering a massive lump on your back can’t be easy!

I never really liked David. I found him quite annoying at times. As the book went on, I began to like him a little more, but, for me, he will never live up to Tamani.

What can I say about Tamani? I instantly fell in love with him! This is one of those books that I won’t forget, even when I move on to another.

I really liked the cover. The other cover isn’t so nice and I’m so glad I bought the better cover. The colours go really well, and all the text shows up nicely.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. However, I was a little annoyed at the writing style. I found that each sentence, particularly at the start, was beginning with ‘Laurel’ this and ‘Laurel’ that.

Review- Shift by Em Bailey

Olive Corbett is not crazy. Not anymore.

She obediently takes her meds and stays under the radar at school. After “the incident,” Olive just wants to avoid any more trouble, so she knows the smartest thing is to stay clear of the new girl who is rumored to have quite the creepy past.

But there’s no avoiding Miranda Vaile. As mousy Miranda edges her way into the popular group, right up to the side of queen bee Katie – and pushes the others right out – only Olive seems to notice that something strange is going on. Something almost . . . parasitic. Either Olive is losing her grip on reality, or Miranda Vaile is stealing Katie’s life.

But who would ever believe crazy Olive, the girl who has a habit of letting her imagination run away with her? And what if Olive is the next target?

A chilling psychological thriller that tears through themes of identity, loss, and toxic friendship, Shift will leave readers guessing until the final pages.
-From Goodreads

I read this book really quickly and really enjoyed it. It’s different to the books that I normally read so I wasn’t sure about how much I would enjoy it. But I really did underestimate my knack for picking good books. I absolutely loved it!
The book really keeps you hanging on by creating an air of mystery, right from the start. The characters are very complex and I immediately warmed to Olive, whose point of view the book is written in. From the start Miranda never really appealed to me, and I think this is what the author wanted to do. There is romance (which I love, I must add!), and lots and lots of drama! This really kept the book going, flowing along fast and willing the reader to read more and more.
The cover is really very clever. I must say that, to me, the cover of a book is very important. If I was seeing this on a shelf, it would instantly draw me in, as it did when I was searching Amazon for books to take on holiday with me. The writing really stands out but doesn’t draw attention away from the picture. The colours go really well and I don’t think many people will not be able to agree with me when I say that this is a cover cleverly thought out.
Overall I really enjoyed this book, especially the twists throughout, which weren’t expected most of the time.

Review- Tapas and Tears by Chris Higgins

I really enjoyed this book. I had started to read this a few months ago but, having a few books on the go at the same time, never really got past the first chapter. This time though, I was determined to finish it and went in with an open mind. Once you get in to it, you really start to enjoy it, as I found. I couldn’t put it down!
The characters in it are well thought out, and the book is written in Jaime’s point of view. You see her go from, as her mother calls her, Wilma Worryguts, to bold and brash Tira, which actually means ‘Shoot’ in Spanish. I really love it when you see a character develop, and this is certainly what we see.
The plot is really good. It has a bit of everything: drama, arguments and, also, romance. The romance in this book, however, is not the typical one you see in most books. The character of Pablo is planned carefully. Chris Higgins allows you to fall in love with him, but also allows you to feel what Jaime and Concha feel for him as well.
I really love the cover on this book. It’s quite simple but I think I like it more than the other, much older, covers on Chris Higgins’ books. The others were quite girly, having sparkles on them, and I think this takes interest away from boys, who might also enjoy these books.
On the whole I really enjoyed this book and would highly recommend it to anyone interested. It is quite an easy read and doesn’t need a lot of thought.
