Q: What book do you think would make a great Halloween movie

Please explain in graphic detail of goriness…

I’d love The Immortal Rules by Julie Kagawa to be made in to a movie! I really enjoyed reading the book back in the summer and I think it’s the perfect Halloween movie! I really love Allie, the main character, and she’s the perfect scary, Vampire character!

Waiting on Wednesday (1)

Waiting on Wednesday is a weekly meme hosting by Breaking the Spine where book bloggers write about the book releases they are looking forward to!

Inhale. Exhale.
Breathe.

Breathe.

Breathe . . .

The world is dead.

The survivors live under the protection of Breathe, the corporation that found a way to manufacture oxygen-rich air.

Alina

has been stealing for a long time. She’s a little jittery, but not terrified. All she knows is that she’s never been caught before. If she’s careful, it’ll be easy. If she’s careful.

Quinn

should be worried about Alina and a bit afraid for himself, too, but even though this is dangerous, it’s also the most interesting thing to happen to him in ages. It isn’t every day that the girl of your dreams asks you to rescue her.

Bea

wants to tell him that none of this is fair; they’d planned a trip together, the two of them, and she’d hoped he’d discover her out here, not another girl.

And as they walk into the Outlands with two days’ worth of oxygen in their tanks, everything they believe will be shattered. Will they be able to make it back? Will they want to?

I’m really looking forward to the release of this book- which is actually tomorrow here in the UK! I’ve heard lots of great things about it and can’t wait until my birthday when I’ll have the opportunity to buy it! How great is the front cover?! Dystopian is one of my favourite genres so this should be a great read!

Review- The Queen’s Lady by Eve Edwards

1584 – Surrey, England When Lady Jane Rievaulx begins service to the Queen at Richmond Palace, she is thrilled at the court’s newest arrival . . . Master James Lacey. Despite her previous courtship with his older brother, James is the man she truly loves. And for his part, he cannot deny his fascination with her. However, James is setting sail on a treacherous journey to the Americas, seeking absolution for what he sees as past sins. But when Lady Jane is forced into a terrible situation by her own family, there is only one man to save her. Will Master James return to his lady - before it’s too late?

I actually read this book before the first in the trilogy, ‘The Other Countess’. But this actually didn’t matter! Eve Edwards manages to create a lovely image of Tudor England in the reign of Elizabeth I. I am a huge fan of historical fiction and so this book really was my cup of tea!
At the start of the book we meet Lady Jane Perceval, now the Marchioness of Rievaulx, who I completely fell in love with! She was everything I look for in a main character: loveable, tough, strong-willed, with an air of vulnerability.
What can I say about James? He was completely swoon-worthy! He is one of those characters that you instantly fall in love with! How I wish I was in Tudor England right now *sigh*!
All of the other characters were well-thought out and just marvelous! I am really rather annoyed that I’m not a time traveler -or have a tardis!
The front cover is amazing and really draws you in. It clearly states that this is a book of style and class- Tudor style and class. I know that I picked it up straight away as soon as I saw it!

Overall, I really, really thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who loves historical fiction, or even a good romance!

RATING: 5/5

Review- Divergent by Veronica Roth

In Beatrice Prior’s dystopian Chicago, society is divided into five factions, each dedicated to the cultivation of a particular virtue–Candor (the honest), Abnegation (the selfless), Dauntless (the brave), Amity (the peaceful), and Erudite (the intelligent). On an appointed day of every year, all sixteen-year-olds must select the faction to which they will devote the rest of their lives. For Beatrice, the decision is between staying with her family and being who she really is–she can’t have both. So she makes a choice that surprises everyone, including herself.

During the highly competitive initiation that follows, Beatrice renames herself Tris and struggles to determine who her friends really are–and where, exactly, a romance with a sometimes fascinating, sometimes infuriating boy fits into the life she’s chosen. But Tris also has a secret, one she’s kept hidden from everyone because she’s been warned it can mean death. And as she discovers a growing conflict that threatens to unravel her seemingly perfect society, she also learns that her secret might help her save those she loves . . . or it might destroy her.

I had wanted to read this book ever since I heard about it, but lots of factors stopped me. I wasn’t sure which book was first in the trilogy and then, once I had found out, it wasn’t in my local library!

I kept my eye out for it and snapped it up as soon as I saw it!

I really loved the idea as I love dystopia; the idea of another world out there is amazing! I hadn’t read a book like this one before, the plot was unique. The only comparison to another book I could think of was the Hunger Games with the districts, but there was one difference: Divergent is one hundred times better than The Hunger Games.

The characters are really interesting and you’re are always left anticipating their next move. I really loved the main character, Tris, who we see transform throughout the book.  I wasn’t sure if I would like her, as it seemed that she hadn’t developed much of a personality at the start, and was ruled by her faction. But I was wrong! She really did have a personality under all of those Abnegation clothes!
Four, Four, Four, Four, Four. Now my favourite number! Four is one of those characters that you just fall in love with straight away. At first he has quite a gruff demeanor and doesn’t get close to anyone. But then we see him meet Tris and create a bond with her that really brings tears to your eyes. You can tell right from the start that there is something different about him.
The other characters are really great too! They’re easy to get to know, but you’re also not sure of there next moves, what they’re going to do next; and I really liked that about the book.

The cover is really great! If I were to see it in a bookshop, I would pick it up straightaway! It really says something about the book.  It instantly draws you in, which I loved!

Overall, I think this is one of my favourite books of the year so far! Veronica Roth has created a Dystopian world which I both love and hate, at the same time.

Conflict- Short Story

I had to write a short story for my Religious Studies class, explaining what the word ‘conflict’ means to me, and I’ve decided to post it here! I hope you enjoy it!

I’m hiding. Cramped up in a cupboard, the only thing I can see is the faint outline of my hands out in front of me. I can hear explosions, some far away, and some much closer. Fear runs through my veins but I can’t move, not unless I want to be killed. So many people have already lost their lives fighting for their country, and I don’t want to be one of them. It’s not that I’m a coward, but I must my parents and they are the ones who told me to hide.
“We must all be brave,” my mother had said as we all ran through the filthy streets in the middle of the night.
My eyes widen as I hear a door open and bang against a wall. People. Intruders. The enemy. I peer out of a small hole and see a figure looming over my parents. A gun shot rings out. Once. Twice. And then silence. Staring at the bodies of my parents, I realise that my mother was right; I must be brave. I must survive the conflict.

I hope everyone thinks it’s okay! Please comment with feedback; I would really appreciate it!

Review- City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

When fifteen-year-old Clary Fray heads out to the Pandemonium Club in New York City, she hardly expects to witness a murder — much less a murder committed by three teenagers covered with strange tattoos and brandishing bizarre weapons. Then the body disappears into thin air. It’s hard to call the police when the murderers are invisible to everyone else and when there is nothing — not even a smear of blood — to show that a boy has died. Or was he a boy?

This is Clary’s first meeting with the Shadowhunters, warriors dedicated to ridding the earth of demons. It’s also her first encounter with Jace, a Shadowhunter who looks a little like an angel and acts a lot like a jerk. Within twenty-four hours Clary is pulled into Jace’s world with a vengeance, when her mother disappears and Clary herself is attacked by a demon. But why would demons be interested in ordinary mundanes like Clary and her mother? And how did Clary suddenly get the Sight? The Shadowhunters would like to know. . . .
-From Goodreads

I fell in love with this book right from the moment that I picked it up. The idea is intriguing; that there are people out there who can see Demons, and actually fight them. After reading a lot of books written in first person recently, I was wary to pick this up. I like to feel close to the character, and this is hard to achieve in third person. But I can report that I wasn’t disappointed at all! This book has really restored my faith in third person narratives.
I liked the main character, Clary, from the moment she was introduced. She was different from a lot of book characters. She was curious, and wasn’t afraid to get her point across. The first chapter in Pandemonium really defines her character.
Simon, Clary’s best friend, really makes me laugh. He was an instantly likable character, like most of the other people really!
I have two words for you, that changed my life, forever: Jace. Wayland. Jace is really one of my favourite love interests. He made me laugh and cry, mostly at the same time! I find myself daydreaming about him in the middle of the day in school, when I’m supposed to be doing work! He really is a bad influence on me!
Alec and Isabelle Lightwood really added something to the book. I loved how much they loved each other, and loved Jace, too. They’re love was real, as well, and you could tell how passionate they were about Shadowhunting.

The overall plot was played really well, and by the end I was sat on the edge of my seat. At the end there is a massive twist and I was screaming in frustration at points! I wanted to do something to help! Cassandra Clare has created a whole universe, where I want to live all year round! It really is truly amazing!

MY RATING: 5/5
