Two years ago to the day, I sat down at my laptop and created a blog. It may not have seemed a big deal at the time, but two years later I can see how it has affected my life. When I started my blog – then called Read, Write, Sleep, Eat! – I had no idea there was a massive community out there. It wasn’t until I joined Twitter a few months later that I started to realise how amazing and wonderful blogging can actually be.
In the past year, since my first blogoversary, things have changed a lot. For one, I moved to WordPress in August and while there have been times I wish I had never done it (usually in moments of hosting panic), I think it was the right decision to make. Moving to WordPress meant, really, building my blog up again from scratch but I don’t regret it – I think moving really gave me the shove to show dedication to my blog, and I’m a lot happier now.
In myself, I definitely think I’ve changed since April 2013. In the past year, I’ve gone to lots of book events, and attended my first blogging event too. I’ve really emerged out of my shell and I definitely think I’m more confident than I was. I loved going up to London in March for the Hot Key Blogger’s Brunch where I got to meet lots of lovely bloggers and booktubers. I still get incredibly nervous before events, but I do love it once I get used to PEOPLE WHO ARE ACTUAL PEOPLE AND NOT JUST ON THE INTERNET.
I’m not going to write a long list of people to thank, because I’m sure I’d miss lots of people out. So thank you, yes YOU, for supporting me over the past year, whether you’ve been here from the beginning or have just found Queen of Contemporary. Thank you to everyone who has followed, left a comment, or just clicked on a post by chance. Thank you to the bloggers who are all so lovely, to the authors who I love to pieces, and to the publishers for being so generous. I love each and every one of you – my friends.
In the past year, my favourite blog posts have been:
Is Age Just a Number? – I’m so proud of this post. It’s one of the most honest posts I’ve ever written, but I’m so glad I did. Sometimes it’s nice to just write your thoughts down!
On Supporting Your Favourite Blogs – I’m not sure why I like this post so much but I just do. It springs to mind as one of my favourites!
Thank you for such a brilliant year of Queen of Contemporary. Without you, I wouldn’t have been able to achieve half of the things I have and I can’t express my gratitude enough. Thank you! Here’s to many more years of Queen of Contemporary!
