Q: What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.
I really hate insta-love. Sometimes, if it’s written correctly, it is bearable but if a book does contain insta-love then I might not be as keen on it.
I also really dislike it when people use sentences like this: He/she was amazing.
To me, it doesn’t make much sense and it doesn’t flow well.
What irritates you?

26 October, 2012 at 9:01 amI’m not a big fan of insta-love. You can feel attracted to a person when you first meet but declaring your undying love after five minutes is taking it a bit-lot far.

26 October, 2012 at 2:50 pmCan’t say that I have come across anything with insta-love either, not recently at any rate, but I can certainly see how it would be irritating. It would take all of the fun right out of the story.
