On My Radar #1

On My Radar is a new feature where I’ll be talking about some of the things on my wishlist. I’m hoping to do one of these every few months, because, other than loving sharing things, these posts will also remind me to give priority to these items!

I’m not too sure when I first noticed The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion but the cover has always interested me and I think it’s finally time I read it. I think I’ll be buying this for my Kindle sometime soon.

Story time: When I was around eight or nine, I was obsessed with mermaids thanks to the TV show H20: Just Add Water. When I say obsessed I mean I used to pretend I was a mermaid. Whilst I grew out of that stage, I absolutely can’t wait to read Of Poseidon by Anna Banks because it sounds freaking awesome. Mermaids!

The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry was brought to my attention when Stacey wrote her review on it and it sounds right up my street. What’s better than a book about book lovers?! That’s obviously a rhetorical question. I’ve read a few books in the past year or two about book lovers (I really enjoyed The Library of Unrequited Love) and I can’t wait to read more.

A non-fiction book, also about books as with The Storied Life, I’ve wanted to read Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops for about a year now. I read a newspaper article with a few extracts from the book and I loved it, so I already know this is a book I will be racing to buy. I can’t believe I haven’t already!

Frostbeard Studio Candle in Old Books – I’ve seen these candles on Tumblr a lot and I’d really love to try it out sometime. I absolutely adore candles and I can’t think of anything better than a candle that smells like books! There are lots of different scents, including one that smells like Dumbledore’s Office. How awesome does that sound?!

The Fault in Our Stars iPhone case – I’ve looked at lots of different phone cases, but the one linked is definitely one of the best I’ve seen before and the Etsy shop has lots of designs to choose from. Definitely something I’ll be considering getting in the future!

Have you read/tried out any of these? Have any of these caught your fancy? Let me know!

Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops is a book that I saw in Waterstones a while ago and I’ve been reading bits of it every time I’ve been in. Some of the things that people have said in there are hilarious.

Really like the idea of these posts. I saw some candles a while ago and they were Harry Potter character scented, this post reminded me of that 🙂

I really loved “The Storied Life of A.J. Fikry”, it was a touching story about a bookseller and his old life, and new life. I really recommend this novel to you 🙂

Aah, I used to watch H20:Just Add Water too – me and my friends used to play mermaids in the playground! The Ingo series by Helen Dunmore are probably the only good mermaid books I’ve read (the rest all seem to be a bit rubbish, although I haven’t read Of Poseidon so fingers crossed) and although I read them quite a few years ago, they’re worth looking out for if you’re looking for something with mermaids in 😉 Great idea for a feature!

I love this new feature, Lucy!:D A. J. Fikry looks really amazing- I’ve seen so many great reviews, and I am a huuuge fan of Gabrielle Zevin – yet I’ve never actually seen this in a bookstore – so I think I’ll have to buy it on my Kindle soon!
Those candles look so brilliant! They remind me of a perfume I saw on Tumblr, (I think it was called paper passion?) which is book scented and just asdfghjkl :’)

    Gee 🙂

I think you’d quite enjoy the Gabrielle Zevin novel – I’ve been trying to track down a copy for myself since I borrowed it from a friend last time. I also have some of the Frostbeard candles. They’re pretty amazing and the Mockingjay one is my favourite.

Haha, Weird Things Customers Say in Bookshops look funny! I have to admit, when I was (quite a bit) younger I did get a bit confused between Jane Eyre and Jane Austen … easy mistake to make!!

I LOVE The Library of Unrequited Love – I’m actually writing a mini-review of it right now! Such a sad book … the last line!! Excuse me whilst I pick up the pieces of my broken heart …

Loving your blog by the way, I just discovered it! 😀

I really want to read Of Poseidon, I love mermaid books! I’m currently reading Wake by Amanda Hocking, which features Sirens and it’s so good!

So sometimes when I’m alone I just sit in cry. And it’s usually from listening to this song, especially live. Growing up in a homophobic town with homophobic parents, not too easy for me, just a gay person trying to get by. I get hurt a lot, and I never even know the people. I really hate getting up some mornings and going to school, people can be so so mean. This song gave me hope. And courage. It told me “It’s never wrong to love”. Thank you, Lady Gaga <3 I love you. I really do.
