My 2013 Resolutions – Have I Met Them?

At the start of 2013, I wrote this post about my New Year’s Resolutions. I’ve never made resolutions before but I liked the idea of doing it and I think it really motivated me to do something and start the year on a positive note. I’ll definitely be making more this year.

‘I would really like to reach 200 followers by the end of the year, possibly more.’

I did it! I reached 200 Google Friend Connect followers before I moved to WordPress, and I’ve passed 250 Bloglovin’ followers so I’m doing so well. I’m not as obsessed with my follower count as I used to be and so I bloglovindec13don’t check it every day or anything. I’m getting to the stage where I just like blogging and don’t want the pressures. I’m so pleased though! Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone who followed! (And if you haven’t, links are in the sidebar. I’m watching you 😉 )

‘I would like to get better at organising posts as I am terrible at it! I need to start scheduling more, as some days I don’t post at all!’

I totally aced this resolution, I think! I’ve been posting pretty regularly (excluding the last few months of this year) and even posted every day for around two months. Looking back, I have no idea how I did it. Overall, I think I did really well on this resolution and I almost always post ahead now.

‘I really want to get better at commenting more on other blogs.’

Again, excluding the last few months, I’ve done really well on this resolution. I like to comment on posts but sometimes I do go overboard and comment on millions at a time and then I get stressed when I only comment on one hundred thousand 😉 I will, though, be relaxing this in 2014 because I still want to comment, but maybe not as excessively.

‘I want to start analysing the books I read better.’

I’d say I’ve been doing this pretty well. I’d like to think so, anyway. I think my reviews have improved greatly since 2012 and so I’m pleased with myself.

bathkidslitfest2 005‘I WANT TO MEET MORE BLOGGERS!’

First of all, don’t attack the caps lock button, 2012 Lucy! Second of all, I DID, 2012 LUCY! I DID! This year I’ve met SO MANY bloggers who have all been so lovely. Meeting new bloggers is always great and I can’t wait to meet even more of you next year.

‘I would like to receive more review copies.’

I’m in contact with quite a few publishers now which is great but I wish I hadn’t gone so crazy with requesting. Sometimes I can forget about the reading and reviewing part.

‘I have set my reading target to 100 [books]’

Yay! I did it! I upped my target once I’d passed 100 and finally set it to 155 books which I passed at the start of December. I’m very, very, very pleased with myself. *smug face*

‘I really want to join a book club!’

Ask and you shall receive, 2012 Lucy! I joined one for a while but didn’t enjoy it at all (we didn’t even talk about books!) and so started going to one at my local library which I love. It’s a monthly occurrence and I always come home with a massive smile on my face. I also started my own book club which happens weekly and I really love running it and coming up with new ideas.

‘I vow to have read at least one Harry Potter book.’

And I read them all! I loved them so much and can see why everyone raves so much about them. I’ve also watched all of the films except The Deathly Hallows: Part Two.

‘I am going to try and aim to read at least 20 UK YA books.’

bookaddict 003

‘I want to try and read more historical fiction.’At the time of writing this, I’ve read 55 which is so many more than I wanted to. This makes me very happy indeed!!

I read a bit but not near enough as many as I wanted to read. Oh well!

‘I also want to try to read more classics.’

I don’t think I’ve read a single one… Does a quarter of one count?

‘I want to try and write more!’

I’ve started going to fortnightly writing squad meets which gives me the kick up the bum I need to write and I also wrote 12,000 words for NaNoWriMo this year. Success!

‘I would like to go to a few literary events this year.’

I went to an awful lot this year. Woop!

‘I really want to try and expand my vocabulary.’

I’m not sure about this one. Possibly? I can’t really tell.

I want to stop using words such as ‘like’.

I think, like, this one has, like, definitely gone, like, well. Right, like? 😉

Did you set any resolutions for 2013? If so, did you meet them? If not, why not?

Thank you, Debbie! I’m only going to set myself a main reading goal next year and then see what else happens because I’m planning on re-reading quite a bit. I just want to relax!

Congrats on all the accomplishments you have made in 2013! I wish I had been more like you and set some goals for myself aside from “I’m going to read X amount of books” (which I didn’t even stick with that :x).

Thank you, Kayla! I’m glad I did set myself goals, even if I forgot about quite a lot of them. I think it allowed me to concentrate on reaching each one.

      Thanks for stopping by!

Wow Lucy! You’ve completed basically all of these! Believe me when I say I would have (miserably) failed half of them… 🙂

I didn’t set many blogging resolutions, but I guess I’ve read 3 or 4 classics a month which has been an achievement! I also passed a couple of page view milestones which is always lovely. 😀 I definitely need to set a UKYA challenge for the coming year too… and I think I’ll do Camp NaNo and NaNo to make sure I do some more writing!

Anyway, Happy new Year Lucy and I’m wishing you the best for 2014!

Oh, I’m sure you wouldn’t have done!

I really do envy you reading so many classics. I wish I could do it! I’m definitely going to try and read some in 2014, if possible.

Yes! I’m going to try and read a lot more UKYA books in 2014. My UKYA TBR is so big and there are some really amazing books.

Happy New Year to you, too!

Congratulations on doing so well with your resolutions! I wanted to read more classics too, but unsurprisingly, it hasn’t happened for me either. Next year though, I’m totally going to rock the classics. *determined nod* I joined NaNo but didn’t get too far with it, so I’m definitely going to have another go next year. Happy new year Lucy! Here’s to a brilliant bookish 2014!

Wow, congrats on meeting so many of your resolutions this year. I didn’t set any myself – but I have a few in mind for next year!

I wish I could read the classics, but the language of them gets me every time – I end up getting confused and have to put them down, oops!

Many of your 2013 resolutions are the same as my 2014 resolutions! Congrats on meeting your resolutions! :)I didn’t set any last year, but I’ve set a few this year, like posting more regularly and joining in on the blogging community more.

    Happy New Year! 🙂

Wow, you did great this year. I almost met my resolution to post monthly favorites and I did become better at being true to myself….so I feel accomplished. I also got a poem published! I had wanted to get published in 2013 🙂 It’s amazing how you’ve contacted authors and done so much with BookTube and on this blog. I adore historical fiction…I used to read it all the time. I suggest authors: Ann Rinaldi and Mildred D Taylor (well researched and dynamic writing),and books Search of The Moon King’s Daughter, and War and Peace.
    Happy New Year!!!

Haha I love you Lucy and this post! I’m so glad that you managed to accomplish a lot of your resolutions, and YAY FOR MEETING MORE BLOGGERS! I’m really glad that you got organized and were able to comment on a lot more blogs than before. But the fact that it stressed you out is a bummer. I hate when something you do originally just to spread love or for fun ends up being stressful (like blogging sometimes :()

    Happy new Year, Lucy! <33

I think you’ve done brilliantly this year, Lucy! You’ve accomplished so much. I hope I get to meet you at a bookish event next year and I’m happy to see that you loved Harry Potter! If you ever want any classics suggestions, let me know, as I’ve been reading one a month for the past two years. Have you tried classic children’s fiction? There’s so many out there and they may be a great place to start.

Well done! You’ve done SO amazingly well! Meeting bloggers seems so exciting – I’d love to meet everyone I talk to on blogger/twitter (including you, of course)! It’s just annoying that I live nowhere near ANYONE. *stomps off in huff*

Would you be okay with me doing a post like this on my blog too? I LOVE the idea! (Of course, I’ll mention you gave me the inspiration!) ;D

Oh my god, you’ve done awesomely this year! I don’t think I actually accomplished any of my goals for 2013, but hey 😉 And I wouldn’t worry yourself too much about the classics. The few that I’ve actually read have been good, but so slow to read…

Great job! Since I didn’t have my blog at the start of the year my resolutions were always something stupid like eating more healthy which I never achieve. Nice job, you did so much better than me!

Thanks for sharing these. There are some things in your list which I want to work on this year, especially the vocabulary part. I scheduled my blog posts in the last six months and realized how organized you can be that way!
